Let The Fun Continue...
Items of Interest

Our combined meeting with C2 was a lot of fun. We learned a lot with Ron & Mert in Charge! They each had their turn going over their notes, talking about Wings on the River and Down on the Farm as well as other items of interest. Both events are a lot of hard work but are very enjoyable as you see a lot of friends you don’t see very often.
We decided at our September meeting that E3 will donate to the Meigs Local Fall Carnival this year. Last year the chapter agreed to donate to the Southern Fall Carnival and it was decided at that time to donate to each of the local schools in our area for their fall carnivals, rotating our support from year to year.

We have been having very good attendance at our meetings and we appreciate the support. We were glad to have Richard Kearns with us at our last two meetings. Richard is a new GWRRA member and lives in Belpre, OH. Richard bought Paul Darnell’s GL1200.

Remember to color in the counties on your Ohio map for the counties you rode in since January 1st, 2005.

Did You Know
Accidents Don't Always Happen at Night

In fact, 75 percent of motorcycle accidents happen during the day, on straight roads and in good weather. And over 80 percent of them happen within the first 18 minutes of the ride. So please, pay attention when you get on your bike and use caution, even if you're riding the same route every day.

Ron's 2 Cents Worth

It looks as if the riding season will soon be coming to an end, so we need to get out and ride as much as possible before the cold weather hits and the snow begins flying. It isn’t an enjoyable ride to be on the bike in those kind of conditions as some of us had to do on our ride back home from Spring Fling earlier this year.

We want to thank everyone for the phone calls, visits, flowers and encouragement during the loss of Nancy’s Mother in August. You can always count on your friends at times like these.

We had a dinner ride to Grinders in Athens on Saturday September 24th. We were pleased with the good turn out with Roger and Becky Lutz, Craig and Judy Harrison, Al Graham, Paul and Linda Darnell and Nancy and I making the trek to Athens for a good meal and great fellowship.

As this will be Nancy and my last newsletter we want to thank all of you that have supported us and helped us along the way. Paul and Linda Darnell will be taking over as the new Chapter Directors with Roger and Sharon Black as their Assistance. They will do a great job and we will support them all the way and are sure everyone else will also.

Safety Topic
RIDE DEFENSIVELY

Nearly two-thirds of all motorcycle accidents are caused by a driver violating a rider's right-of-way. Usually this is because the motorcyclists was not seen. To avoid this, YOU MUST RIDE AS IF NO ONE ELSE ON THE ROAD CAN SEE YOU !

Helpful tips to remember:
* Always ride with your headlights on - day & night.

“Remember, if you don't look out for yourself on the road, no one else will”

* Slow down at intersections and ride through carefully.
* Watch for turning vehicles.
* Stay out of driver's blind spots.
* Signal well in advance of any change in your driving pattern.
* Don't assume a driver sees you, even if eye contact is made.
* Use your horn when necessary or if you aren't sure a driver can see where you are.

Be careful when you approach another vehicle. It's hard for drivers in oncoming vehicles to accurately judge how fast your motorcycle is moving. That's why it's up to you to make sure you can react safely if another driver suddenly turns or pulls out in front of you. Also, make sure you have plenty of space between you and the vehicles in front of you.

Remember, if you don't look out for yourself on the road, no one else will.

Paul's Corner

Hello All,

It really doesn’t seem possible that Fall is almost on us! Where has the Summer gone? I have been lucky enough to get back on the bike for the last month or so and Linda and I really enjoyed the Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway vacation ride. By the way in case you didn’t hear, I dropped the bike while on the trip and fractured Linda’s left elbow. Linda is doing OK, she has most of her range of motion back and her pain is a lot better. Despite our accident Linda and I both had a great time and you can view pictures of the ride on the web site at http://www.gwrra-ohioe3.org.

I would like to setup a chapter ride meeting in October to plan out our ride schedule for next year. I would like to have the schedule ready before our officers meeting in November. I would like to have the meeting at our house on Wednesday October 19th at 6:30 PM. We can plan to have pizza and some snacks for the meeting. I’ll give everyone a call when the time gets closer and try to get a head count so we’ll know how much pizza to order. Please be thinking about where you want to ride to next year. We would like to make at least one ride per month, with possibly a couple of them being overnight rides thru the summer. We also want to plan a one week vacation ride similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway ride we had this year. If there are places you would like to go now is the time to get them on the schedule for next year.

Some of you may not be aware that at the October meeting on the 28th the change in Chapter officers will take place. Ronnie and Nancy will open the meeting and then they will turn the meeting over to Linda and I. This will be Ronnie and Nancy’s last meeting as E3 Chapter Directors, I hope each of you will do your best to come out and show them your support and thank them for all the hard work and time that they have put in for our Chapter.

Also in case you haven’t heard, Roger and Sharon Black have accepted the positions of Asst. Chapter Directors. Linda and I are happy that they have agreed to help us as our Assistants. Ronnie and Nancy Russell and Rex and Kathy Cumings have agreed to take the Chapter Ride Coordinators positions. The remainder of the Chapter Officer positions will remain the same, Linda and I want to thank each of them for staying on in those positions.

One more item that I want to mention, I will be going in for a complete knee replacement on my left knee (the one I broke in April) on Monday October 24th. That will be right before our meeting on October 28th so I am hoping that I will be able to attend our meeting. I hate to miss our first meeting as Chapter Directors, I am planning to be there if at all possible.

Rex and Kathy Cumings and Craig and Judy Harrison are planning a fall leaf ride to Tennessee October 13th, 14th

Chapter E3 gathering is the 4th Friday of each month at McClure's Restaurant in Pomeroy, Ohio at 7:00 PM

and 15th. If you are interested in joining them please give Rex a call so he can make

arrangements to get you the hotel room. Please don’t wait too long to decide the rooms will be filling up fast.

If anyone wants to enter a logo for next year’s Buckeye Rally get it to Linda or I before the officers meeting in November. The theme for next year is “A Salute to the Armed Forces”.
