Spring is finally here and the riding season has
already started for some while others haven’t had the opportunity
as of yet, so we will have to do some catchup riding! Our Gold
Wing calendar is filled with lots of fun things to do, overnight
trips, day rides, and our dinner rides. Try to get out and enjoy
all that you can. Our Chapter received a
thank you note from Gary Hart and Family for the donation from our
March meeting. Friends always help each other in time of need.
We want to welcome Mike Cadle as our newest
member. He attended our March meeting and we hope we didn’t scare
him off and he will join us when ever he can.
The District Officers Meeting was held April 2nd
in Columbus. Ron, Nancy, Paul and Linda attended. It was noted
that May is Motorcycle Awareness Division Month. We want to do
everything we can to let the public know that motorcycles are
everywhere and to keep an eye out for them while driving. We can
get safety flyers to put out to the public to help spread the
message.
It was announced at the Officers Meeting the
Mike Wright will be stepping down as the Director of GWRRA, he
will be retiring effective April 30th 2005. He and his wife have
made the decision to spend time with their family and friends from
back home in Indiana, we wish Mike and his family the best of
luck.
Don’t forget the Blue Ride Parkway Vacation Ride
in September, we have 4 couples committed so far, if anyone is
planning on attending please let us know so we can make
reservations on the parkway.

Safety Topic
|
| This months safety tip was on new car brakes.
Newer cars with ABS (anti-lock) brakes have the ability to stop in
less distance than most motorcyclists. Use appropriate following
distance of at least 2-4 seconds. Most GM vehicles have ABS
systems as standard equipment and all manufacturers offer ABS as
an option on their new cars. So the best tip is to treat all cars
as if they may have an ABS system and keep the appropriate
distance for safety. |

Buckeye Rally will be June 17th thru 19th at
Ashland Ohio. Our job is games again this year but we
requested Saturday afternoon rather than morning. Each chapter is
to bring two prizes for the auction or arcade and eight dozen
cookies. If you would like to be in the cookie contest you need to
send 6 cookies in a baggie for judging. We have attached the
Buckeye Rally registration to this months newsletter, take a
minute and check it out, there is a lot of stuff going on at this
years rally. If you haven’t made your reservations yet for Buckeye
Rally you may have a hard time getting a hotel close to the event.
It was announced at the officers meeting that most of the hotels
close to the rally were already booked up.
There were 17 entrees in the Cabin Fever Logo
contest this year, Paul had 4 entrees but didn’t make the grade
this time. Better luck next time Paul.
First quarter district new members was 396, I
was lucky and signed up 4 new members and received a 6K + Pin.
We want to wish Jerry Bradley and Carlene Crace
the best on their wedding April 9th.
Keep in mind that C2’s next meeting is April 15th, try and make it
if you can, it is important to show our support for the other
chapters in our section.
Don’t forget that we will be having a Safety
Bike Checkup and cookout at my garage on April 17th. This will be
a good opportunity to get your bike out and give it a good once
over and clean up, not to mention good food and fun. Also keep in
mind that our April meeting will be canceled to allow our members
to attend the Spring Fling in Tennessee. We will be leaving
Thursday Morning April 21st (rain or shine, cold or warm) to head
out for the rally if anyone would like to join us.

Tech Tip
|
I ran across this article on Hydroplaning in
another chapters newsletter and thought it would be a great topic
for the Tech Tip section of our newsletter. I don’t mind stealing
good ideas when I get the chance, and I don’t think the author
would mind since it may help prevent an accident.
|
“Rain” is a 4 letter word, watch for
hydroplaning. |
The sole purpose of the tread design on a tire is to carry off the
water,
but it can’t do its job if you don’t allow
it enough tread depth to work with.
Hydroplaning occurs when the tires are not in full contact with
the road. They ride on a thin layer of water, and sometimes oil,
on the road. Hydroplaning occurs frequently in light mist or
drizzle. Proper tread depth and tire pressures, slowing down, and
riding in the tracks of other vehicles all help to reduce the
chance of hydroplaning. The cessation of a slushing sound, or any
decrease in steering or braking may indicate hydroplaning. If this
happens, slow down without braking and avoid any sudden moves.

Hello
all, I want to take a second and mention that some of our C2
Chapter members have had some bad times here lately so please keep
them in your thoughts and prayers.
I have had the bike out and rode to work twice so far this month,
it sure was cold riding to work at 5:00 AM, both days the
temperature when I rolled out of the garage was 39ºF. It was in
the upper 70’s on the ride home though.
Don’t forget our Bike Safety Checkup and cleaning party at
Ronnie's on April 17th. We are planning a cookout and it will be a
great chance to get the bike ready for the upcoming ride season.
We have also learned that Chapter Q2 from
Circleville is planning a “Summer Sermon” on June 11th. Jeff &
Lisa Stiles are Q2’s ACD’s and they have been a big supporter of
our events. I hope each of you will plan on attending this event
to show support for them as well. I have attached their flyer and
registration so please look it over and plan to attend. I know Ron
and Nancy and Linda and I will be going, I hope you will make the
effort to support them as well.
Don’t forget Spring Fling is less than 2 weeks
away, I can’t wait, it is always a great ride and the first real
opportunity to get the bikes out for a ride of any distance.

Chapter E3
gathering is the 4th Friday of each month at McClures
Restaurant in Pomeroy, Ohio at 7:00 PM |
Don’t forget April 16th is our
annual movie night to Movies 10 in Nelsonville. We will be leaving
the McDonalds parking lot at 4:30 PM (an hour earlier than normal)
to enjoy dinner at Sonic Drive-in in Nelsonville then it is off to
the movies at Movies 10. This is always a great time and I hope
each of you can make it.
And we will be meeting Thursday morning April 21st and rolling out
for the Tennessee Rally (Spring Fling) at about 9:30 AM from
McDonalds in Pomeroy.
Don’t forget GWRRA Skills Day at Nelsonville on April 30th hosted
by Chapter X. This is also one of their fund raisers so try to
make it and support them if you can.
Also our Regular meeting in April will be cancelled because of the
trip to Tennessee and our May meeting will be a combined meeting
with C2 at Gallipolis McClures on Friday May 20th, 7:00 PM lets
see if we can have more people from E3 at the meeting than the
gang from C2.
