Finally, the triumphant return of
the Chapter E3 newsletter! Sorry for the hiatus but between
everything that has gone on and the illness and injury we haven’t
taken the time to publish a newsletter.
Our regular chapter meeting was
held Friday July 22nd at McClure’s in Pomeroy, with 22 members in
attendance. We were pleased to welcome several visitors especially
Fred & Sabrae Brown, Chapter Directors from Chapter FL1-S of Plant
City Florida. Fred and Sabrae we in the area for a family reunion
and we were pleased that they joined us for our meeting.
We were all saddened to hear about Lee
Spaun’s daughter that has been diagnosed with cancer and is
beginning chemo-therapy. Our chapter has decided to provide them
with a donation and we plan on presenting it to them shortly after
our Wings on the River. Other
announcements that were made during our meeting were, that our Bug
Run/dinner ride scheduled for Friday July 29th has been cancelled
so we can prepare for Wings on the River on July 30th. Our
overnight ride to Twinsburg Oh. has been cancelled due to lack of
interest, we hadn’t had anyone indicate that they were interested
in going and it is too late to try and get hotel room
reservations, maybe we can try and schedule it again next year. |
Safety Topic
|
During the meeting we handed out a
flyer from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation covering some good
general safety tips. I also reviewed a few interesting motorcycle
safety statistics. Some of the items covered were:
- 22% of motorcycle fatalities
were related to braking or steering maneuvers.
- 30% of fatalities were
attributed to no maneuvers taken to avoid crash.
- One-half of the cycle fatalities
occurred when the vehicle was negotiating a curve.

Don’t forget Wings on the River is
just around the corner, we will be serving Spaghetti, Corn on the
cob, fresh tomatoes and salad. Dick & Bev Fetty have garishly let
us use their cooker again this year so we will be having hotdogs
and hamburgers throughout the day, as well as pop, coffee and
popcorn. We want to thank Jerry Jenkins and Marzettee company for
supplying the salad dressings for our Wings on the River, we
really appreciate it.
Don’t forget that Chapter C2 will be having their chapter
fundraiser “Down on the Farm” on Saturday August 20th. Cost for
pre-registration is $10.00/bike and $12.00/bike the day of the
event. Don’t forget to get out and support C2, they are always
good about support us and we need to show them our support as
well.
Nancy and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers
when Nancy’s mother took a turn for the worst. At the time we are
writing this she is doing better and we pray she continues to
improve. Again thank you all for your concern, we both appreciate
it. |
Tech Tip
|
Don’t forget that headlight, it
not only lights your way during night rides
|
“it is always a
good idea to replace both headlights when one burns out” |
but improves your visibility
during the daylight. GL1500 and GL1800’s are both dual beam head
lights and it is always a good idea to replace both headlights
when one burns out. Keep in mind that there are higher output
bulbs available then the stock version.
They are of course, much more
expensive then the stock replacement especially when you are
replacing both bulbs. But they do provide you with a marked
improvement in night illumination.
After all if you can see that deer standing along the edge of the
road 30 feet sooner you have a much better chance to react and
avoid a serious accident.

Hello all, well I must apologize for
not getting a newsletter out before now. I just haven’t felt up to
par and have let a lot of stuff slide. I am feeling better and
hope to be able to ride in a few weeks. I really felt that I would
be back on the bike before now but I guess the damage was a little
worse then I thought. I finish up physical therapy this Friday and
hope that I can continue to improve quickly. I am planning on
riding the Wing on the Vacation Ride to the Blue Ridge Parkway in
September. I am happy to say that our bike is repaired and ready
for me to climb on whenever I am up to it.
Don’t forget that C2 will be having
their fundraiser on August 20th and if you can please come out and
support them. We have a dinner ride scheduled that same evening so
we will be meeting at the Holliday Inn in Gallipolis at 6:00 PM
instead of at the Pomeroy McDonalds. That will give everyone a
chance to stay longer at C2’s fundraiser before heading out for
our dinner ride. We had a
great turn out for our July 23rd dinner ride to Jimmy Columbo’s.
We had a total of 6 bikes and 2 four wheelers that made the trek
to Parkersburg WV. Joining Linda and I on the ride were Dave &
Paula Carr, Dick & Bev Fetty, Greg & Kim Roush, Cliff & Carol Hitt,
Rex & Kathy Cumings, Tom & Sandy Taggart, Roger & Becky Lutz. Of
course we had a good time, good food and we ended up back at
McDonalds for some good old ice cream afterwards.
Our Ride Coordinator Rex Cumings and I
have been discussing the possibility of making a leaf ride back to
Tennessee in October. There is Holiday Inn Express near the Blue
Ridge Parkway that offers a really nice tour package in October.
We will check it out and let everyone know if it looks like
something we can put together.
Also don’t forget that August 12, 13,
& 14 will be the West Virginia State Rally just outside of Ripley
WV. The “Waller in the Holler” looks to be a fun time and it is
just around the corner from us. If you can take some time and make
the ride up and support them this year. It looks like they have a
lot of great things planned for the event. Check out the flyer
with this months newsletter.
