Let The Fun Continue...
Items of Interest

There were 21 members in attendance at our January 27th gathering. We were pleased to see such a good turn out for the first meeting of 2006. We discussed a flyer that we received from Florida Chapter FL1H about their Bike Week Rally. Their chapter has a small rally during bike week just dedicated to Gold Wings.

Don’t forget that Chapter C2 will be hosting a “Safety Sunday” on February 26th. It will be held at the McKenzie Building next to the Gallia County Fair Grounds from 12 PM to 4 PM. I hope that our chapter can get out to support this great effort. It’s a great opportunity to show your support for our one of our local chapters and you’ll learn something in the process.

We had a guest speaker at our January meeting, Jane Ann Burns. Jane Ann is the coordinator of the annual Bike Races in Wilksville as well as the Morgan's Raid reenactment. Jane Ann thanked us for our help and support in the past and wanted to ask us for our help again this year.

This years Bike Races will be held at 12:00 PM on Sunday April 30th. And the Morgan’s Raid reenactment will need our assistance on September 6th starting at 9:00 AM. You can checkout some pictures from last years Bike Races on our web site (http://www.gwrra-ohioe3.org/events.htm).

(continued)

Our responsibility during the Bike Races is to ride point for each group of riders during the race. We ride ahead and block and stop oncoming traffic at intersections to prevent any accidents. This is always a lot of fun, but it is probably some of the most intense riding you will ever do. It is a very hard job to keep up ahead of these bicyclers on this nearly 75 mile race.

We checked the ride calendar for this year and the race is being held the same weekend as Spring Fling in Tennessee. Several people from both E3 & C2 always attend this rally and I am concerned we may not be able to help them with this years Bike Races.
We need to know as soon as possible if anyone will be able to help with this years Bike Races. Please contact me at pdarnell@gwrra-ohioe3.org or give me a call at 740-992-0486 if you think you will be able to help with this project.

Also the Morgan’s Raid reenactment is on Wednesday September 6th, which of course is a work day for most of us. The last time we provided assistance for this project I think we had 9 or 10 bikes and 2 cars. With Morgan’s Raid the Calvary re-enactors will arrive in Wilksville and unload their horses for the beginning of their ride. Their owners will need us to escort a group of horse trailers to Portland where their Calvary ride will end. The last time we did this we used a lead rider and one tail gunner to keep track of the line of trucks and horse trailers. They expect to have about 400 horses at this years event, about twice as many as last time. This will be an all day affair and is good public relations if we have the people available to help. I know it is a long way off but any one that is interested in helping please let me know.

We were happy to see Jim and Wanda Dorr from Athens and Richard Kerns from Belpre as well as Walt & Debbie Crosby Chapter C2’s Couple of the year and Darrell & Patsy Holland from Point Pleasant at this months meeting. We hope you will come back and join us again.

Paul's Corner

Hello All,
We have been meeting each week to plan and prepare for our act for the “no talent” show, I have been so please at the great turnout that we have had. I know that everyone has had a great time getting together and working on getting the act ready for Cabin Fever.

As you all know the GWRRA motto is "Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge." Getting together each week shows how true this motto is.

Chapter E3 gathering is the 4th Friday of each month at McClure's Restaurant in Pomeroy, Ohio at 7:00 PM

I know each of us has had a lot of fun and really enjoy the time we spend getting together.

I want to thank everyone for their hard work and investment in getting ready for our skit. Above all I know we will have fun and that is what it is all about. Don’t worry I will be watching the act from the hotel across the street :-)

Safety Topic
Roger Black discussed the issue of tire pressure. We had a very good discussion on the

“Remember to take that extra minute to check your tire wear as well as your tire pressure”

proper tire pressure for your Gold Wing. This is very important especially during this time of year with colder temperatures affecting the bikes tire pressure.

Rex Cumings also mentioned the necessity of checking your valve stems regularly. Rex noticed that his rear valve stem was leaking and had to be replaced. The valve stems can be a weak link allowing for a tire failure. Keep in mind that you are depending on two tires to keep you riding safely, that isn’t much between you and the pavement. A tire blowout at highway speed can be a hair raising experience and many serious accidents have been caused by a tire blow out.

Remember to take that extra minute to check your tire wear as well as your tire pressure, and don’t ride without making sure you are as safe as possible.
